What happens on a desert dinner safari?
Pick-up is mid-afternoon, around 3 to 3:30 PM. You drive out to the desert, stop for dune bashing in a 4×4, then continue to the camp for camel riding, sandboarding and a henna painting stand. Dinner is an open BBQ buffet with vegetarian options, followed by tanoura and belly dance performances. Drop-off is around 9 to 9:30 PM.
Is dune bashing safe?
Yes, when run by a licensed operator. Drivers are DTCM-certified and vehicles carry seatbelts for every passenger. Tell us in advance if anyone in your group is pregnant, has back or neck problems or a heart condition, and we will arrange a gentler route.
What should I wear?
Loose comfortable clothes and closed shoes or sandals you do not mind getting sand in. Evenings in the desert are cooler than the city between November and March, so bring a light jacket.
When is the best time for a desert safari?
October to April. Evening temperatures at the camp sit around 18 to 25 degrees Celsius, which is comfortable for sitting outdoors through dinner and the shows. June to September evenings stay above 30 degrees and the camp is noticeably hotter.
What is not included
Alcoholic drinks are available at some camps for an extra charge and are not included. Quad biking and dune buggy rides are optional extras booked separately.
